It's about time that I update this site. Unfortunately, during April and May I was in bed with kidney and gastrointestine infection and not able to function properly. My brain seemed to be incapacitated as well. Not very pleasant to say the least. On top of all this I had to prepare for the big event of our life, Thomas and I were finally married after all those years.

OUR WEDDING

We had decided to have the wedding at the Hotel Royal in Deal and it worked out very well.

It was a small family affair, my nephew Christian came especially from Germany and Thomas had invited his cousin Joan and her husband John. Christian gave me away and it definately was a day to remember.

OUR TRIP TO BLACKPOOL

After the wedding we went for a week to Blackpool for some fresh air. We went by car and it took us 5 - 6 hours on the M1 and M6. I drove and Thomas gave directions! The weather was great. We also visited Thomas home town Bolton and also Liverpool.

Trip to London

Christian invited us to the opening show of "Afrika, Afirka" and I planned carefully the trip after investigating the O2 web site in details. We took the train to London Bridge and there we embarked on of the Clippers down the river.

It was a wonderful experience as it was already dark and the lights from the surrounding buildings made a magical view. We passed Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf until we finally arrived at the Dome or O2 as it is called now.

As we have never been there I must say it is most impressive. Especially I liked all those various space age designs. I can only recommend taking a trip to this place just to have a look around. At the moment they have the Tutankhamen Exhibition on and several shows running.

But we had to find Christian and the Afrika, Afrika Tent and I tell you I felt right like a country bumpkin asking and looking for the directions. In the end I phoned Christian and he met us half way. Well, then, the Show is being held in a specially built tent and most impressive. Christian gave us our tickets and had to run off again as he is responsible for the technical side of the show. We were standing in the foyer and there are restaurants where you are able to sample African dishes and boutiques selling African crafts. As Thomas was thirsty he went to a bar to get himself a beer and the African barman spoke GERMAN. So did the door man. Good for me not so good for Thomas, as I was engaging in a conversation. It appears they are all employed by Andre Heller, the brainchild of the show, in Germany. We finally could get to our seats which were right by the stage (VIP treatment!!!) The only thought I had been: I hope they don’t have snakes in their act (I went once to a show in Morocco and they had a snake charmer, which is not necessary, my cup of tea). But I didn’t have much time to worry as the show began and is full of energy.

Please click on the image and have a brief view of the show. You also can read up on it as I want to save myself repeating everything. All I can say is that it was absolutely wonderful. It’s a mixture of dance, music and acrobats but acts which I have never seen before. There is a group of basket ball players by riding on unicycles to the beat of hip-hop. Later on one of the guys tries to jump with his unicycle some robes and to make it absolutely difficult, he himself brings out a robe and tries to skip while jumping the robes, I know it sounds crazy. The first few attempts go haywire, but the audience goes wild. “Another time” they scream. And when he finally masters it everybody goes bananas!

Christian came in the intermission to keep us company and he remarked on the reaction of the audience. Let’s hope the show will be a big success, they certainly deserve it.

And this was the nice part of our trip and now we come to the horror of the evening. We left the tent full with happiness and walked back to the main building of the O2 when 15000 screaming girls descended down on us leaving the SPICE GIRL concert. They all stampeded down to the Underground and we were stuck in the middle of it. I freaked out big time as I suffer from phobia of crowds anyway and I was worried about getting our train back to Gillingham. And here starts my critique. There is something very wrong with the transport system. The last Underground train leaving the O2 is midnight. Our last train from Victoria is also leaving at midnight. Now you will understand my fear. It was already 11 o’clock and we fought our way down the underground station. Then we had problems with these outlandish tickets dispensers. What zone are we, what zone is Victoria? What does is cost, I cant read this, as I am not wearing my reading glasses, can you read this? No. H E LLLLLLL PPPPP, can anybody help us. Sure, there was a very nice young man who showed us. But I must give credit where credit is due and that’s to Thomas; he stayed calm and collected through the entire ordeal and helped me to calm down.

We just made it to Victoria in time to catch our train and we were finally arrived at 1 am in Gillingham. What a nightmare.

However, we have now been able to erase the horrible side of the journey and remember the fantastic show and we like to say:

Thank you Christian

A man goes to the doctor because his right leg is hurting him. The doctor says, the leg needs to be amputated. When the man wakes up after the operation, the doctor tells him: “I got good and bad news for you. The bad news is that we have cut off your left leg. The good news is that your right leg is improving!
